Politics. I can probably leave it there for all things scary...particularly with where we're at in United States these days: questionable leadership, a multitude of scandals and unethical stories, mostly a partisan shout fest. Honestly, turn on the news, and spend one minute listening to a pundit or politician either report on the awfulness of our nation or monger fear in suggesting how awful things can get.

And whatever your politics, I think it's undeniable that Donald Trump and the Republican Party know how to push the envelope when stoking the issues.

Case in point, Kimberly Guilfoyle, top fundraiser for President Donald Trump. Dynamic, ecstatic, and passionate are all good traits for a rousing presentation. But, sometimes, the former qualifiers can be lost to forcefulness, as was the case with Guilfoyle. And I don’t believe politics play a role here, as Guilfoyle hypes cultish, dystopian rhetoric. Here is but a taste of this ghoulish garble (clip posted by The Guardian News, August 25, 2020):

You check out the full transcript here. Note all the spooky phrases and references, a couple of examples recorded by Bill Goodykoontz, Media Critic at azcentral.com and The Arizona Republic, August 25, 2020:

"They (Democrats) want to destroy this country and everything that we have fought for

and hold dear.”

“They (Democrats) want to steal your liberty, your freedom, they want to control what

you see and think and believe so that they can control how you live. They want to

enslave you to the weak, dependent, liberal victim ideology to the point that you will

not recognize this country or yourself.”

Takeaways:

  • Watch your tone and volume. Knowing your audience and believing you can provide content that will speak to them is one thing, but shouting terrifying statements is another. You can make your point without all spit and vinegar. Sometimes less is more.
